Who We Are

Holy Child Motherless Babies Home is a Catholic charity home that was established in November 1988 by Rt. Rev. Dr.Micheal Ugwu Eneja (of blessed memory) the then Catholic Bishop of Enugu diocese. It was handed over to Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Okonkwo Gbuji at the retirement of Bishop Eneja while Bishop Callistus Valentine Chukwuma Onaga took over from Bishop A. O. Gbuji and remains the Chief Executive Officer till date. It is a branch of Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP) which was founded by Monsignor Professor Francis Obiora Ike on October 4th 1986.

Monsignor Obiora Ike was the first chairman and Executive Director of CIDJAP as well as Holy Child Motherless Babies Home Ogui Enugu. At the establishment of the home, it was initially managed by Rev. Fr. Afam Ugwu from Catholic Diocese of Enugu who later handed it over to the sisters of Daughters of Divine Love Congregation until the diocese decided to hand it over to a congregation whose primary apostolate is to take care of orphans and abandoned children.

It was on this note that the sisters of Daughters of Mary of Mary Mother of Mercy Congregation were invited by Bishop Anthony O. Gbuji to take over the management of the orphanage home under the directives of CIDJAP. In 1998, the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy Sisters accepted the invitation and took over the management of the orphanage the same year. To the glory of God, they have raised the home to the envy of other orphanages in the Catholic diocese of Enugu and beyond. Their major challenge in this glorious apostolate has been inadequate resources to raise the orphanage to their desired standard and to give the children the best of all they desire to become real celebrities in the world. As our slogan goes “YOUR HELP IS OUR HOPE.” We look up to the assistance of individuals and philanthropists around the globe in the achievement of our desired goal.

Core Values

The home has trained almost five hundred children since its inception in 1988. The trained motherless children are sent back to their families while the abandoned ones are given permanent families through adoption. The sisters have rebuilt the orphanage to a good standard for the good living of the children.

The children attend one of the best Catholic Schools in Enugu State and they perform excellently well in their academic and morality. They have a good school bus that conveys them to school and other places for studies, sightseeing and playing. They are physically, morally, mentally and academically balance. The children enjoy the best medical attention and care. They are happy and healthy children.

Holy Child Motherless Babies Home is a Non- Governmental and Charitable Organization that brings hope to the less privilege and vulnerable children. It is a home that gives adequate parental care to children who lost their mothers at the infant stage of their lives or who are abandoned by their supposed to be mothers. It gives these children the opportunity to experience the joy and care they lost earlier in their lives and helps to bring out their full potentials in life. The sisters of Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy Congregation (DMMM) took over the management of the home in 1998 with a total number of thirty two motherless and abandon children. Through their relentless efforts and unflinching support of the diocese, the home has been raised to a great standard from what it was at its initial stage.
